Sawamura's journey began in 2011 with the Yomiuri Giants, where he made an immediate impact. As a rookie in Japan, he dominated with a 2.03 ERA across 29 starts, earning him the Central League Rookie of the Year award. His success continued in 2012, helping the Giants clinch the Japan Series with a 2.86 ERA in 27 games.
