Leopardstown Festival: Romeo Coolio's Strong Finish Wins Grade One Novice Chase
In a thrilling race to the finish, Romeo Coolio, ridden by Jack Kennedy and trained by Gordon Elliott, secured the victory in the Grade One Novice Chase feature race on the opening day of the Leopardstown Christmas Festival. With odds of 8/15, the horse demonstrated exceptional endurance, staying strong over two miles and winning by half a length.
Despite trailing by three lengths when the horses jumped the second-last fence, Romeo Coolio showcased a brilliant staying performance in the final stages, surpassing the leader. July Flower finished third, and He's Gorgeous came in fourth among the nine runners.
Post-race, Elliott praised Romeo Coolio's tenacity and jumping abilities, highlighting his horse's positive attitude and strong performance. The six-year-old has already proven its mettle over two-mile distances, achieving Grade One success at Leopardstown's Dublin Racing Festival and placing in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham and Aintree.
So far, Romeo Coolio's two starts over fences have been at two and a half miles, with a successful chasing debut at Down Royal followed by a triumph in the Drinmore Novice Chase.
